About Us
Welcome to Rain Studios. Here at Rain, we have a bit of
an old-school approach to recording. Even though we use the latest digital
technology we love to record and mix in a real, old-school, rock n' roll
method. This means dirt, this means fat, warm sounds, this means the kind
of sounds you are used to hearing on real recordings. Whatever your songs
need, we have the facilities to record them.
We also understand that you need a break during sessions, so we have a
chill-out space with TV, PS2, DVD and videos. If you need to surf, we
have a 1MB wireless broadband connection.
We are close to the M1, have easy access into the studio and have plenty
of parking for your convenience.
Rain Studios is a superb place to record,
as all the artists who have worked here have found out. If you are looking
for a studio to work in to turn your artistic dreams into reality, Rain
Studios is the place.

Music Recording
Music is the lifeblood that flows through
all of us. Here at Rain, we Record, Mix and Master it. Our approach is
simple - to capture the best takes you can perform, and then to make it
sound good.
We believe the recordings of the 60s and 70s were the pinnacle of warmth
and dirt. Even the classical and jazz recordings were superb. (Hey, even
classical music has dirt!). This doesn't mean we live in a museum, only
using archaic gear and so-called vintage junk. We combine great, warm
analogue with great digital, old-school recording techniques and a touch
of passion to record and mix your music.
All types of music are welcome, Rock (all of it's derivatives), Hip Hop,
RnB, Classical and jazz. We specialise in live, single room recordings.
Just the way it used to be done. A band, all playing together, in a properly
designed large live room.
We can record at Rain, with our specialist rooms, outboard and mics. Then
if you want to mix elsewhere, we can put it on a harddrive, convert it
to Pro Tools or Omf.
You can bring us your project as a Cubase, Pro Tools or OMF file and it
can be mixed at Rain using our Neve console, custom monitors and our comprehensive
outboard.
If you have mixed at home or in a project studio and you need professional
mastering, we can help. We have superb monitoring and are experienced
in lots of music types.
We can master your project to make it radio ready, club ready or even
help you choose the correct track listing and timing for your cd.
Post Production
We offer most post-production services including
voice-over, voice-to-picture, ISDN and foley. We have vast experience
of radio and TV adverts and also conference audio.
We have an extensive library of Sound Effects and a database of local
Voice-Over Artists.
We have invested heavily in the Neve Capricorn console with surround sound
panel and a carefully calibrated monitoring system to provide a 5.1 surround
mix for your projects.
We use specialist convolution reverbs for accurate room modeling.
We have video sync to Pro Tools or Nuendo
and can export projects as both Pro Tools or OMF in preparation to be
used in Avid.
We use specialist conversion software which accurately converts from MAC
to PC, Pro Tools/Nuendo to OMF/EDL and back again.
This allows us to export your projects in any format you need - with 100%
accuracy.
Recent clients/projects include Network Associates, TNT Logistics (Voice
Over), Rival (TV Adverts), Rosemary Conley (CD/Video/Radio adverts), Remploy,
BBC and the Sun and Royal Alliance.
Music Composition
We offer music composition in a variety of
styles and have scored for corporate conferences, in-house training videos
and television adverts.
Our music composition clients and projects have included Network Associates
(Dallas and London conferences), Thunderbirds Toys TV Adverts, Rosemary
Conley (diet club cd) and Remploy (internal videos).

Rooms
Rain Studios has 3 recording rooms plus the
control room.
Room A. This is our main recording studio.
A really big room, measuring 12m (41ft) X 10m (32ft) and 7m (24ft) high.
It has been built to IBA specifications and has easy access with lots
of parking.
This room is large enough for a full choir, a jazz big band or just a
really loud drum kit and has a lovely, natural sound that is prefect for
any music types. If you need to move air, this is the room for you. It
rocks!
Room B. This is a smaller, specially designed
anechoic room. It is fully floated and has no reflections, so is perfect
for vocals.
It may be smaller than studio A, but at 5.5m X 2.5m, it is still large
enough to accommodate drums, 2 4x12's (if you ever had the desire), or
a group of actors/voiceover artists. We mostly use this for vocals or
when a tighter, drier drum sound is needed.
Room C. Room C is the livelier of the 2 small
rooms.
It is 5m X 3m and is more neutral sounding than Room B. It allows acoustic
instruments to sound more natural, as opposed to the dry sound of Room
B.
Control Room. The control room is acoustically
treated and has been fully floated with over 6 tons of soil under the
floor. This all helps to make the control room acoustically neutral.
It has also had everything with noisy bits removed from the room to make
it as quiet as possible to mix in.
We have tried to make the control room a pleasant, refreshing area to
work in, so that your creativity is not stifled, but in it your ideas
can be realised.
Console and Monitoring
Neve Capricorn Console with 144 channels
with 48 faders. The console used to belong to Mike Oldfield and was fully
loaded by him. It has 32 remote mic/line preamps, 96 eq/compressor/limiters,
48 AES in and out, and 32 analogue inserts. It also has the Neve CSX film
panel installed for surround sound panning.
The console has full automation of all facilities and incredibly accurate
recall. This console is the best sounding digital console ever made and
is still used in Abbey Road.
We use a custom made Munro Associates MA1 system with Dynaudio drivers.
The front 3 speakers are 3-way with 4 Dynaudio BM-5 speakers and Dynaudio
amps for the surround.
The system uses a Genelec subwoofer for the .1 of the 5.1.
Instruments, Microphones, Recording
and Outboard
Instruments. We have
a really good combination of new and old amps. So whether you need a warm,
classic, blues tone or a modern, scooped drop-d riffmeister assault, we
have the amps to do it.
Marshall TSL122 amp - 100W 2x12" all valve, Trace Elliot 4X12, Marshall
JTM45 with original late 1960s 4X12 with Greenbacks. Cornford Hurrcane
20W recording amp.
Custom-made Jalapeno drum kit 10", 12", 14", 16" 22",
snares -Noble & Cooley Maple 14x5.5, Pearl Masters Maple 14x5.5, Yamaha
